【Haori Coat】
There are different theories about the origin of the haori coat, including jittoku, worn by a bushi warrior on top of kosode, and doubuku, worn on top of kosode, or the body-armor. In any case, it is believed to have developed as male clothing. It was during Genbun (1736-1741) that women started to wear the haori coat. Although banned for a while, it revived during the Bunsei era (1818-1830), this time spreading in the general public as part of female clothing.
